Day Nine in India ----- Big Mistake at Work

Today I stayed up all night and day.  I drank a can of coffee latte for breakfast.  I made pancakes with jelly.  Eli goes to work later on Thursdays..9:30 am.  I spent the day browsing online about whitewater rafting in Rishikash and about going to see wild tigers in Ranthambore National Park near Jaipur.  Then I found a story about slum tours in Delhi.

I really got excited about the slum tours.  I will book one for tomorrow if I can.  There are two such tours in Delhi.  I will try both of them.  We plan to spend a weekend visiting Jaipur when Eli gets back.  Eli's co-worker Saurabh invited us to spend a day/night visiting his family during a holiday in November.

Eli came home late...7 pm...because he had a teleconference with the Vice-President of Johnson Controls.  One of his team members had made a Huge mistake.  He was trying to implement a trial version of a new computer program for IPhones.  It would not deploy.  Johnson Controls purchases a certain number of licenses for programs to be used with Apple products.  He thought Johnson Controls had used up the number of licenses, so he deleted all the current licenses to make room for his new program.  Now his new program did deploy.  Great.  He was done with his project.

Big mistake!  All of Johnson Control programs around the world stopped working because the license to use them had been deleted.  It took the IT team 8 hours to fix the problem, costing Johnson Controls over 500 million dollars.  Every salesperson could not complete their sales deals because the program to do it would not work.

Eli did not know what would happen at the teleconference.  He had to explain to the Vice-President what and how it happened.  No one got fired.  The IT team corrected the problem by restricting access to the programs to IT team members only. ...Something they should have done in the first place.   Now the Vice-President knows who Eli is.  Eli has been working to get promoted up one supervisor level for the past year.  He is getting his annual evaluation soon.

I watched a few episodes of Game of Thrones with Eli. Now I am anxious to know what happens next.  There are three seasons of the program to watch.  We are only on season one.

That's about all to report.. A lazy day.  Good night.
